Austin Bao'd Up
A couple of weeks ago Tiff and I venture to the fairly new Bao'd Up in search of delicious bao, and a new restaurant to try.
The restaurant is a relatively newer area, around the Thinkery Austin Children's Museum. So, it's definitely family friendly, but come early because the restaurant is small and fills up fast. The interior is modern, clean and colourful thanks to a large mural.
Now let's get into the main feature, the food. We started with the bao fries, which were sweet and crunchy and kept us happy while we waited for our bao.
Tiff and I both ordered two bao, and started with the Juicy Pork Bao. The flavour was excellent, but ratio of meat to bun was a little to bun heavy. We both commented that we wished there was more meat.
I also ordered the Veggie Bao, which I really enjoyed. It had a slight kick to it in the seasoning, and the filling was more generous than the pork. If it weren't for desert plans, and a long line that formed while we ate, I'd have gone back for a third type.
Tiff also ordered a GuaBao (or, Taiwanese Hamburgers, according Bao'd Up's menu).
Overall, I'd go back! In fact, writing this is making me crave one of the pork ones. Although we chose ice cream instead from the nearby Lick, Bao'd Up also offers a Build Your Own Tea, which includes bubble tea, that I would like to try.
