ThredUp Haul and Review
I first heard of ThredUp through Ingrid Nilsen's recent thrifting haul video, and was intrigued. The site is marketed as an online thrift shop selling brand name and on-trend items at steeply discounted prices. They also take some of the uncertainty out of online secondhand shopping by inspecting items and rating the condition from new with tags to showing signs of wear, but is it too good to be true?
Upon first visit, the site is easy to navigate and offers tons of ways to narrow your search, including by condition (under price). I also like that they show you the original price of the garment alongside their price. The combination makes this a pleasant online shopping experience. That said, "on-trend" items take some time to find. There are a lot of pieces that are mid-2000s trendy to sift through.
If there is one thing I realized early on, it's that you might not have as much time to think over things. ThredUp lets you reserve items in your cart for 2 hours, but once that's up it's fair game. The other is that their pictures and descriptions aren't that great. I initially found a pair of Tory Burch boots that looked black in the photo, but were described as light green. Thank goodness I read that! My main issue is that the descriptions lack details of the wear, and there are no close-up pictures.
Would I shop at ThredUp again? Maybe. I'm not disappointed, but I'm not thrilled.
Shopping
The first thing of note is that you are pretty much guaranteed 40% off your first order. Apart from everyone having a code at this rate to entice new buyers, they will also send you the same offer after you sign up. So, you have your pick of which one to use.Upon first visit, the site is easy to navigate and offers tons of ways to narrow your search, including by condition (under price). My Purchase
I ordered a pair of over-the-knee Louise et Cie boots, and I am pleased with them. They were described as like new, and honestly look like the person who bought them never wore them. They were marked as originally $150 and, with the additional 40% off, I paid roughly $26 for them. They were well-packaged in an adorable polka-dot box, and arrived just over a week after ordering. My only qualm is that the description left out the fact that they are wide calf, so they fit looser than I would like, but it's livable.Would I shop at ThredUp again? Maybe. I'm not disappointed, but I'm not thrilled.
Nothing cats love more than a new cardboard box. |
